Determine Fair Market Value when you Donate Clothes

Used Clothing / Household Items: IRS Code places the responsibility for estimating the "Fair Market Value" upon the donor. BBBS does not provide any goods or services in consideration. The fair market value of used clothing and other personal items is usually far less than the price you paid for them. There are no fixed formulas or methods for finding the value of items of clothing. You should claim as the value the price that buyers of used items actually pay in used clothing stores, such as consignment or thrift shops.

You should support your valuation with photographs, cancelled checks, receipts from your purchase of the items, or other evidence.

Looking to donate clothes and other personal items? We accept a variety of items for donation, click here to see the full list.

We take great pride in assisting the New Rochelle, NY; Norwalk, CT; and Ansonia, CT areas. As always, THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATION!
